Problem with rotary mower blade

I am sure this is a simple one. I have a rotary hover type mower but it is cutting the grass too short, which is unhealthy. I need to take out a spacer but cannot undo the plastic nut which holds the blade. I may even be turning it the wrong way. Any suggestions anyone ? Qualcast Cyclone 6000 hover mower

Maybe you would like to add a gardening blog post for the 'silver surfers'?

Do not hesitate to shout if I can help.
