Why it pays to be personal

You will have noticed that I have asked for some profile changes this week. There is a very important reason why I have done this.

My view is that as a community we need to create an atmosphere of trust between members for this to work to its greatest potential. For us to gain trust, we need to ensure that everyone who is registered here is who they say they are so that other members can feel safe to share and deal on a level playing field.

I could easily have bought identities to bulk out the membership and added images purchased from agencies and invented a bogus membership so that we look more important than we are. However, for this to be successful, we need to grow organically.

I publish my full identity with a photo and contact details too. I want you to feel safe to use this network and that is why you will not see me called administration. It is because I enjoy this and I really want to make a difference in the way resources knowledge and skills are shared within the gardening community.

What is more, I refuse to add any form of censorship that restricts the way in which this forum is used. You are free to add links to any products that you sell, any outlinks to other sites (and that includes other networks and forums).

This is your site and I want you to use it to better your business, your knowledge and your friendships and I will support you in any way I can.

The only thing that is not allowed is abuse, foul language or spamming of members. If I get more than one complaint from a member about another members behaviour I will then invoke my discretion on whether the offending member shall be removed.
